A competition entry for a new beach hut in Eastbourne which took the form of a mini power station, which used wind energy to power a kettle.
Project detailsA play on the familiar form of cooling towers, as well as a comment on Eastbourne's position between two large power stations, this brightly coloured folly provides the shelter, shade and refreshment you need for a day at the beach.
Constructed of lacquered marine plywood with a a brightly coloured interior, the hut has a domed skylight and a small wind turbine - as seen on many of the yachts in the vicinity. The hut's LED lights and all-important kettle are powered by the wind turbine. On windy days. more power is generated - and more tea can be drunk.
The hut's large doors open towards the sea, and its convivial seating plan invites that most pleasant of holiday activities: a good conversation over a brew.
